The last few weeks we have been making some tough business decisions in order to progress and move forward as a company. I feel as if we have slightly steered away from the direction that we wanted as a business and I think this is down to us really just trying to please everyone and learning a valuable business lesson - that actually you can't please everybody and that we need to stay true to ourselves and the ethos of the company.
I started the business initially because I couldn't find the creative job I wanted in Devon and being a country bumpkin (no literally) I didn't want to move to the big smoke, so I decided to create it! The other reason for starting the company was because I wanted to pass on my skill set in sewing and to keep the skill alive.
As a country we don't manufacture much in the way of textiles anymore, although I hope in a few years time we may start manufacturing again. A lot of seamstresses that I know personally and that have taught me my skills, are retiring and there is no one to fill there gap and no skills being passed on, which I personally think is very sad.
Sewing is an amazing life skill to have, you don't know when you might need or when your button might fall off your favourite coat!
Sewing is also a great hobby - it is very therapeutic and a great escapism. It focuses your mind and ultimately relaxes you. The sense of achievement in making something or wearing something you've made is incomparable.
I feel as a company we need to be the ones to keep this amazing skill and hobby alive and so therefore our plan is to teach as many people to sew as we physically can and share the bug and our love for SEWING!
So a new chapter in Pom Stitch Tassel...
After pondering on all of these thoughts and writing a business plan (it's only taken nearly 2 years ;-) we have decided as a company to now offer the following services:
1. Craft Parties - Children's parties, Hen Parties & Bespoke Parties.
2. Workshops - Children's & adult's craft and sewing workshops.
3. Sewing Lessons - One to one tuition for ages 5+.
We are no longer going to offer garment alterations and repairs as a company. We will of course honour any appointments already booked in and any existing clients, but we are unfortunately not taking on any more clients at this time. Any new enquiries for sewing requirements will be passed on to one of our lovely seamstress friends who I am sure will be happy to help you.
We will still design and create costumes for corporate companies but will do this under another name and not as part of this company, but we will no longer offer bespoke costumes for individuals.
I feel like this is a step forward for us in learning who we are and what we offer as a company, and ultimately allow us to focus on offering our three main services to the best of our ability.
Please do continue to follow our journey through our blog and social media channels.
We very much appreciate everyone's support and custom over what is nearly the last two years (wow thats scary!) - you are amazing in supporting a small business and my dream so thank you!
Love & Hugs
